ABOUT ABOUT

Welcome to Maker Week at Proto!  A group of 4 three-hour classes designed to turn your middle school child into a engineering know-it-all!  Under the guidance of our Proto experts, your child will learn 3d printing, soldering, Raspberry Pi computing, and Arduino coding.

Monday: 3d Printing (AM and PM Sessions) - $75
Students will receive a background on the history of 3D-printing, will get an introductory        lesson on computer-aided design, and will print that design on a Makerbot Replicator 2        that the student set-up for printing on their own.  Upon completion, the student should          feel comfortable in the use of CAD and 3D-printing technologies to unlock the creative          energies in their mind.

Tuesday: Beginners Soldering* (AM and PM Sessions) - $75
Do you enjoy taking things apart to see how they work?  Or maybe electronics scare              you?!  Our beginners soldering course is a great way to give your child a basic                        understanding of how circuit boards work, what the various components do, and how            they are soldered onto a circuit board.  Your child will get to solder our TV-B-Gone kit to        take home as a souvenir!

*This course requires the use of a 752 degree soldering iron.  Thus it's the parents duty to       determine if your child demonstrates the care and maturity that's required when using a         soldering iron.  A liability release form must be signed when your child attends the class.

Wednesday: Raspberry Pi Computer (AM and PM Sessions) - $125
Computers are an integral tool in our society, and in this course your child will learn how        to use one of smallest computers ever made: Raspberry Pi!  We will explore the operation      and  capabilities of the raspberry pi as a everyday computer.  When finished, your child          will get to take home their very own Raspberry Pi so they can continue to explore it’s              capabilities at home!

Thursday: Arduino Coding (AM and PM Sessions) - $125
Computer code is the new english language: an important tool that everyone should be          exposed.  We will learn how to use coding languageand arduinos together to harness the      power of LEDs.  When completed, your child will bring home their arduino project and be      able to write code to light up their very own mini digital lite bright!
